Description
In 1857 a rare bladed weapon was found in the river Thames.
It was quickly recognized as an Anglo-Saxon Scramasax.
It became known as the Thames scramasax .
Part of the reason why it became so important was the fact it is one of the very few blades with a runic script on it.
Part of the anglo Saxon runic script has the name Beagnoþ or Beagnoth.
He may have been the bladesmith or the owner of the weapon.
This has led to its more recent name “the Seax of Beagnoth”.
Our replica Seax is has a runic script running along the blade and handles in keeping with the original find.
It’s the same size as the original, ie 73.5cm in overall length.
